Hmmm...I haven't looked at my B&N reviews for some time.
Amazon is being idiotic by suggesting giving comments. That is what the drama queens thrive on. ANYTHING you can say can and will be used against you if you give in to that temptation.
I think you're quite right about the future of social reviews. Reviews themselves will become meaningless in the midst of war.
While I'm on the subject, I have information that the troll group is getting concerned that their opposition is using their own shelving names to shelve books by their favourite authors as well as random big 6 authors to make the system entirely meaningless. Excuse me as I giggle.
One piece of advice to all: don't let this eat you up. They don't have that good n attention span and they will stay on you as long as they get response, but will move on to the next victim as soon as the feedback stops.
We can work on up and down voting etc., but in time each attacked book will be effectively forgotten and genuine reviews will bury the crap. I've seen some f the books from their early days of attack and although they still talk about the authors disparagingly, a casual reader clicking on the pages of those books won't see the defacing. They would have to go back through pages and pages of boring ratings and comments.
We can help speed this process along for each other. We need to stay calm , let the drama die, and then work towards repairs. Please take special note of the positive shelving suggestion as using the same shelf names moves the positive comments or neutral shelfs like 'to read in 2013' up in a prominent position on the book pages.
